She can do it all!

She dances, draws, acts.

Juliette Binoche is a women who explores freely all facets of creativity and is obviously enjoying it immensly: I bow to her and will try to make this my new motto (not that I had a prvious one…).

Last Friday night, in just 70 minutes, Binoche and Kahn made me laugh, gave me the shivers, time to reflect, jump on my seat and cry. Run to see the show, it  is a concentration of fun, intense & beautiful emotions. I would see it again 10 times if I could.

To be totally transparent, Akram Kahn’s magnetic presence and raw beauty might have melted any critical thinking on my part.

I have not yet seen her paintings but stay tuned as I will edit this post as soon as I do.

Georgia O’Keeffe: raw sensuality

O'Keeffe 1

Coming out of the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit at the Whitney Museum, I left blinded by the beauty of her paintings and lost in reverie by the intensity of her relationship with her husband, Alfred Stieglitz. Through the nude portraits he made of her and the letters she wrote him, I discovered a woman in love, sharing her intimate and naked soul. She could not do otherwise.

New York, 13 June 1918

You will be here in a few minutes I guess but I have to get up and write you  - its necessary – I  must -
I’ve been lying here listening for you in the dark – my face feels so hot
Aching for you way down to my fingers end – an actual physical ache-

As I came up up the streets into the sunset after supper – I wondered – can stand it – the terrible fineness and beauty of the intensity of you – I do not know – may yet have to run away – it seems almost too much -
The hot sultry sun so brilliant – shining white I could hardly walk toward it -

And lying here – wanting you with such an all ache – not just wanting – loving – feeling – al the parts of my body touched and kissed – conscious of you
A volcano is nothing to it
No words I know say the hotness – consumingness of it
Still I some way feel I can be quiet when you come can control myself
Feeling it growing though – I seem to feel that the moment will come when I cant control myself – when Ill be blind and mad
I have to tell you – I know you know – and still maybe you dont know how really mad I seem to be growing
you will have to think for me when I cannot think for myself
Trust
Why do you know – the trust I have in you is the finest thing Ive ever known
No absolute

The woman you are making seens to have gone far beyond me – Almost out of sight

Mandatory viewing: you will never think about creativity the same way

Finally I hear something that makes sense and (how bizarre) it is totally irrational !

Listen… Elizabeth Gilbert , author of Eat, Pray, Love  (among other books) is bluntly funny and so right on about the anxiety of writers and artists in general.

This is one of the most inspiring talks I have heard from the wonderful series of the

TED conferences which got her a standing ovation from a very spoiled crowd.

But the truth is, if you show up for your job and do your part, the inspiration will come eventually.

In ancient Greek mythology, the nine Greek Muses are all sisters, the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, or Memory. Each one of the Muses represents a different human art, and, according to Greek myth, they inspire artists to be able to create new music, paintings or plays.

Calliope for Epic poetry
Clio for History
Erato for Lyric poetry

Euterpe  for Music
Melpomene for  Tragedy
Polyhymnia for Choral poetry
Terpsichore for Dance
Thalia for Comedy
Urania for Astronomy

Now you call upon your muse!

Green Porno: from sex kitten to porn director

Isabella Rosselini is a famous model and actress. She is beyond beautiful: such a perfect face.

What fascinates me with her life path is that she went from being “just” a pretty thing in front of a camera to becoming the director of now the third serie of short films for the Sundance Channel where she plays all sorts of bugs in silly giant snail or squid costumes.

Not only did she come up with a really creative idea but she plays a shrimp or a praying manta with such humour, obviously having a lot of fun doing it!

Bravo Isabella for streching the stereotypes and showing that even after a confimed career, you can reinvent yourself in a completely different role.

A Celebration of Kantha/Benefit for the Kolkata Girls

Art Exhibit- they just happened to be all WOMEN

For the first time in the world, a museum will be displaying the feminine side of its own collections. This groundbreaking exhibition by the Musee national d’Art Modern in France, will be entirely dedicated to the women artists of our time.

The show was sponsored by Yves Rocher (yes the same ones that did the beautiful ad I posted recently) and has the immense objective to ” rewrite the art history of the 20th and 21st century from a female perspective. Their creative power, their modes of actions and their strategies are universal source of inspiration, reaching far beyond the world of art.

The new display of the Centre Pompidou’s collection tells their story, their constant struggle and inventiveness to make visible the innovation and creativity that are their contribution to today’s art. (…) Most notably, they explore our collective gaze on the female body, tracing the contours of a free, modern and independent woman. (…)

Expressing the victory of essence over appearance is a fundamental value of the Yves Rocher Company, a company that has continually encourage women to asset their differences and their beauty by defying stereotypes.

By supporting this exhibition, Yves Rocher wishes to demonstrate its attachment to women artists, who are free to think, act and choose their lifestyles, desires and beauty as they please, and to allow everyone  to discover and appreciate the dynamic nature of their art. ”

Music to my ears….

If you have a friend you goes to Paris, ask them to bring you back the english version catalogue or try their website.
