Young artists help you get your priorities straight!

(limited editions × low prices) + the internet = art for everyone

Any art lover can be an art collector…

20×200 is a website that each week brings you limited editions of young emerging artists at very affordable prices (starting at 20$, can’t beat that!)

I love the concept for many reasons: it takes the elitisme out of art and really leaves you with no more excuses for leaving your walls empty. It helps young artist get recognition and allows the art world to be more fluid, with increased exchanges. And what a better gift than the usual pair of socks for your cousin, father in law, etc.

I am sure that Andy Warhol, master of the Pop art movement would have approved of 20×200. By the way, his 200 One dollar Bill Painting was sold this week at Sotheby’s. The estimate was between $8 million and $12 million. It sold for… $43,762,500.

Start collecting!

Gucci, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney rally to protect Women worlwide

PPR is one of the largest Luxury group in the world and parent company of Gucci, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Bottega Veneta, YSL, and more. This week they launched the PPR Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights to develop and support solidarity projects in partnership with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

The site is rich in its compilation of information and resources (and in my opinion the formatting could use some clarity). After looking well in every corner of the website, I was moved by several projects that the Foundation is supporting. And I aplaude the group for their efforts, time and dedication to Women.

Catherine Cabrol’s Photography:

To mark the International Women’s Day, on March, 8, 2009, the PPR Corporate Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights wished to raise Head Office and then Brands employee’s awareness of violence towards women with the exhibition “Injuries to Women”. 26 portraits of women by the artiste Catherine Cabrol were hung…

Desert Flower, by director Sherry Hormann, is the true story of Waris Dirie:

She fled Somalia to avoid a forced marriage in her early teens and having suffered all kinds of indignities in London, finally became a model. At the height of her career she publically announced that as a child she had been circumcised – and subsequently gave up her top model career to campaign against FGM (female genitale mutilation) which is carried out against 6,000 girls and women worldwide every day.

Dita Von Teese spices up Wonderbra but…

In the meantime, Dita makes research so glamorous that I might have to grab a Nurse outfit at a Halloween sale!

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

c11021

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman.

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Maya Angelou

And for the Holidays, you can offer the book with Maya Angelou’s four Phenomenal Woman poems illustrated by Gaugin to the Phenomenal Women around you!
