Don Juan (or if Don Juan were a Woman)

Can an old movie from 1973 be refreshing?

Seriously! Our times have become dull… In this flick, starring Brigitte Bardot as Jeanne, a female version of Don Juan lives her life persuing her own pleasure. No cost is too high to the men she seduces. The story is actually a series of flashback as she confessses to her cousin, a model/Priest her conquests. No need to hint at what she makes of him.

available on Netflix

Worth seeing because:

a) totally amoral tale even if redemption lurks in the end
b) Brigitte Bardot & Jane Birkin kissing and cuddling naked on a fur bed – and no the brazilian bikini was not a la mode back then! (scene still requesting parental permission on websites)
c) gorgeous original fashion before everything was copied and cloned (literally the Azzaro dress is available on their website!)
d) she lives in a killer glass submarine filled with mirrors, a fire and lots of fur.
d) Favorite lines in no particular order…

“Men are out of style…”

“How could you possibly think for a second that I was interested in you, You didn’t understand that it was all a matter of possesing you…”

“I don’t like to be treated in the way I treat others…  don’t like that one bit!”

Fork me, Spoon me… Now!

Amy Reiley seems to be a cool mix of an ADD and an over-achiever. Anyway that’s my impression after I got a little dizzy reading her bio. I also had to spend quite some time understanding which, where and what about her various blogs. But all in, she most definitely has all the ingredient required: a contagious passion, definitive knowledge in her field, all this sprinkled with a good dose of sexiness!

Her book Fork me, Spoon me, is the Sexy version of Julia Child’s cookbook with POTENT aphrodisiac ingredients. It might not be as extensive but I don’t remember finding the Ginger Mojito recipe in Julia’s! So in preparation of the V-Day… whether is is an affaire a deux, a menage a trois or if you decided to invite all your single friends and dish out on ex-lovers… get an apron and heat up the kitchen!

And by the way, the Lady knows also a thing or two about wine: she was nominated as one the  five best female wine professionals in the world of the year by France’s Wine Women awards. And she is the creator of the award-winning Amy Reiley’s Pocket Vineyard and the companion Amy Reiley’s Pocket Gourmet.

So here for more on Ms Reiley: she is the second American to earn a Master of Gastronomy from the French temple of cuisine, Le Cordon Bleu. During her research at Cordon Bleu Amy grew to notoriety as an authority on aphrodisiac foods.

Through her company, Life of Reiley, Amy has found many avenues to promote her aphrodisiac knowledge and unique take on life’s “consuming passions.” The Eat Something Sexy website, www.eatsomethingsexy.com and Amy’s monthly e-newsletter, Amy Reiley’s Aphrodisiac of the Month are considered the online authorities on aphrodisiac food history and science.

But Amy’s culinary knowledge is not limited to aphrodisiac foods. In June 2005, Amy was singled out as one of the five best female wine professionals in the world of the year by France’s Wine Women awards. And she is the creator of the award-winning Amy Reiley’s Pocket Vineyard and the companion Amy Reiley’s Pocket Gourmet, the first comprehensive PDA programs on food and wine.

Patti Smith: Just Kids

Patti Smith has had quite an extraordinaire life. Less known was her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe which she just wrote about in her new Memoirs: Just Kids.

Listen to the NPR Fresh Air Interview where she describes her first encounter with Robert Mapplethorpe: him awaking with a smile on his face. How they became roommates, soul mates, friends, lovers and muses. Just listening at her broken voice about her desires, her inspiration and her mission is awe-inspiring. As well as how all those that helped shape her persona from Bob Dylan to Arthur Rimbaud made the woman that she is today.

Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman

I copied here the text from this Serie that was aired on the Sundance Channel.  It describes the film and the project better than I could have.
Also watch below the accurately funny video: Kitchen Confessions : The Making of a Modern Female that is my favorite from Jennifer Fox’s website: Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman

“What does the modern woman want? Where does she fit in today’s world?”

Never before in our collective human history have so many women had such autonomy to construct a life of their own creation. Yet, the terrain is still rocky and ‘choice’ does not necessarily bring happiness, let alone freedom. Meanwhile, old models of femaleness still haunt women everywhere.

In this six-hour tour de force, FLYING: CONFESSIONS OF A FREE WOMAN, master storyteller Jennifer Fox lays bare her own turbulent life to penetrate what it means to be a free woman today. As her drama of work and relationships unfolds over four years, our protagonist travels to over seventeen countries to understand how diverse women define their lives when there is no map. Employing an ingenious new camera technique, called “passing the camera”, Fox creates a documentary language that mirrors the special way women communicate. Over intimate conversations around kitchen tables from South Africa to Russia, India and Pakistan, she initiates a groundbreaking dialogue among women, illuminating universal concerns across race, class and nationality. Part delectable soap opera, sociopolitical inquiry, and narrative experiments, FLYING sweeps us up into an addictive international adventure chronicled with sincerity, innovation and elegance.

Nothing better than the Urban Dictionary

With 4,511,234 definitions since december 9, 1999, the Urban Dictionary is the place to find the definition of any new word or slang.  You can even find an expression that matches your state of mind, however strange it may be. The word version of the Cartoon Bank.

ABC Sex: Sex on Anniversaries, Birthdays and Christmas

Flirunkxting: not just drexting (drunk texting) or flirxting (flirty texting), but flirty drunk texting.

French Canadian Kissing: Licking someone else’s teeth. Just like Canadian Bacon is not quite bacon, French Canadian kissing is not quite Kissing.

French Compliment: A statement phrased like a compliment that is actually more condescending than flattering, generally coming from a beautiful French woman.
“You speak French very well, for an American.”
“You must have a fantastic metabolism. I would never be able to eat such a big dessert.”
“How daring of you to wear such a lively color.”
“Marie just told me my bag was ‘interesting.’ I’m pretty sure that was a French compliment.”
Seduciary Responsability: The responsibilities of a boyfriend/husband to his girlfriend/wife to make attempts and succeed at seducing his mate.
“Lucy: Ricky, you need to satisfy your seduciary responsibility in this relationship, I’m not feeling the romance.
Ricky: Yes dear.”
Seductionist: A man that gets off from the butterflies in the stomach, heart fluttering, and shortness of breath that happen when a woman is properly seduced. A man with a confident and smooth voice, picks up women constantly, and debonair.
“That guy has girls falling all over themselves wanting to be with him! Damn, Seductionist.”

They don’t call them Lovers in Highschool, Leeland

Too many blogs, too little time…

To manage them I have my Bloglovin’ list that keeps me updated on what is posted. Most aim to feed my curiosity on various subjects from tech to music.

Lately, there is one that I have been following that absolutely puzzles me because it is just as enigmatic as it’s title … They don’t call them Lovers in High School, Leeland.

A quote from Twin Peaks where the incestuous father is asking where his daughter got her necklace from. Like the cult film by David Lynch, it takes you into a strange world composed of a mismatch of provocative pictures, collage of sexy pictures next to ones of dead fishes and even Berlusconi’s face after attack…

Adding to the strangeness of it all, it is the second blog of famous-Fashion-Blogger-eighteen-years-old Jane Aldrige. Her uber popular blog Seaofshoes is Jane’s take on fashion with Mom taking pictures of Daughter’s apparent-no-limit wardrobe closet.

I don’t follow fashion blogs. Maybe it’s the disconnect between both universe that fascinates me. The person behind the image.

Seductress: Women who ravished the world with their Lost Art of Love is a must read

Quite a fascinating book I just landed: Seductress , Women who ravished the world and Their Lost Art of Love by Betsy Prioleau.

This will change your mindset on what a Seductress is and trust me there is no need to be young or beautiful. These women just know the Art of Love and how to speak to Men in a way that maintained the erotic tension whether by intoxicating speech, joie de vivre and cerebral magic.

The book is not a self help book but rather a voyage in history, with some of the most fun, passionate and interesting love stories of our time.

From Agnes Sorel, Mistress of Charles VII to Lady Lioness, Beryl Markham or even Martha Gelhorn a.k.a The Blonde Peril, you will navigate through their lives with enchantment. Plus Betsy Prioleau‘s witty and intelligent writing make it a real page-turner.

Click on the below link, I have read a page or two of the book to give you an idea of its content.
