There are 5 languages of Love, are you using the right one?

I usually discard self-help books – the cliche seems to hold true that you read one and you have read them all.

So when I heard about The Five Languages of Love, I imediatly put in that category (and in the special section for the lovey-dovey-gooey). Then within 2 days, I bumped into great reviews from 3 different sources, so I picked up the damn book…I have a hard resisting buying books and cheap jewelry !

Would I suggest you to spend your nights on it or buy the series that followed (ie, Love language for your children, your teenager, your spouse, etc) definitely not, but browse through it : you might finally get why your expressions of Love have not been well-received lately… they might be completely off-track!

Gary Chapman was working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years – why would someone choose this as a full-time job is beyond my understanding- anyway, he identified five love languages and if you speak the right one, it overflows your partner with this addictive love drug called ocytocin. Here it goes:

Words of Affirmation (I love when you sing, you are so handsome tonight, etc)
Quality Time (date night, visit an exhibit together, share the other’s interests)
Receiving Gifts (noooo they don’t need to be big: flowers, favorite cookies, diamonds ;) )
Acts of Service (that you can always do regardless of which category your love falls into: emptying the dishwasher, fixing a light)
and Physical Touch (holding hands, massage and more…).

I can already tell you the way to get my oxytocin real high:

A dinner with candles, him whispering in my ear that these new shoes he just bought me make my legs look so long, his fingers dripping down my back…. at that point I’ll empty the dishwasher for the entire week!!!
