The mysterious and oh so delicious Anne Apparu!

Anne Apparu

Anne Apparu is a NY bohemian artist chef who creates dinners on the 18th of each month in a different and always amazing location where mood,  food and attitude blend into a happening.

The 18th Restaurant is the opposite of anything pretentious, formulaic and safe: it’s just cool, unpredictable and more like going to a dysfunctional family reunion but with artsy relatives.

I have met Anne on several occasions by now and each time I discover a new facet to her talented personality.

She is this soft-spoken and sensual young woman who appears slightly surprised by this cult following she has created. Then it’s her sharp awareness about the life force of foods and her determined need to nurture others – transmitted through 3 generations of women – that jumps out.

And more recently, I have seen her eye that stays open to the mysterious moments of life. She says that each month, the restaurant is a small miracle in itself where people, an atmosphere and her art collide to create something that is very far from a recipe and that can never be reproduced.

Last month, the 18th Restaurant was hosted at this incredible Orensanz Foundation, an old Synagogue on the Lower East side. On Sunday, the dinner I hear, will take place in a superb loft with major artwork on the walls :

You must RSVP to the18threstaurant@gmail.com to attend or email her to receive next month’s invitation.
