Creativity and passion empower women

Nest invit

I received Nest’s invitation by the mail for their next event and  the bright colors and a hint inspired me to read more about them (ususally I am quick to toss flyers for yet another party, dinner or gala and what not in the bin … yes I do that).

Nest is a nonprofit organization that empowers female artists and artisans around the world. Using a unique combination of interest-free microfinance loans, mentoring from established designers, as well as a market in which to sell their crafts, Nest helps its loan recipients create successful small businesses. Nest instills pride of ownership, preserves ancient artistic traditions and successfully moves women from poverty to self-sufficiency.is a website who’s mission is conecting Women through arts, craft and opportunity.

So here I am, planning to attend their next event on Thursday Oct 1st:

A Celebration of Kantha/Benefit for the Kolkata Girls

Supita, Manali and Pushpa grew up as daughters of prostitutes in Kolkata, a city in West Bengal, India, but now they live in a protective community away from the human trafficking and prostitution that would have been their future. Using the ancient skill of kantha, the art of embroidery used to decorate items, one strand at a time, the girls can support themselves through Nest and Hand and Cloth. Each girl delights in choosing her own thread and cloth at local markets and each has developed a distinctive sewing style. THey are exclusive to us and in limited supply, since each is carefully hand–crafted. Join us for this celebration of hope, color, and craft. $40 per ticket $50 VIP ticket and#40;includes a free giftand#41; $10 students under 21
