I am typing yet I have no idea on where this post is going !
I’ll start with the begining…
A friend of mine invited me last month to see the Naked Girls reading at Madame X. If some of you are new to She is French, you might have missed the post on The Naked Girls which is a group of women who meet up once a month to read hmm… naked. (more)
Each month is a different theme and on May 7th, we sat down to hear The Naked Girls Goes To the Movies. Imagine Nasty Canasta, Jo Boobs, Gal Friday, Sapphire Jones & Victoria Privates dressed with only glitter and fake lashes reading out-loud Clockwork Orange and 2010: a Space Odysseye ~ funny to think a lot of them seem to really be turned on by Sci-Fi and comics!
I don’t know about you even more than reading, I think I enjoy even more being read to. It must be one of those memories from childhood. Then pick a good book and add some glamour to the picture and well, you’ve got me hooked!
Then to everyone’s surprise, the Girls announced at the end of their performance that for the month of June… the Girls would be replaced by Guys: Naked Guys Reading Great Female Writers hosted by Jonny Porkpie, with Albert Cadabra, Machine Dazzle, Mancandy, Tigger!
After an initial and rather spontanous enthusiasm, I mean which women would resist meeting a Guy who nicknamed himself Mancandy. All sorts of questions fused: will they be able to reproduce the sensual and hypnotizing enegy of the Naked Girls reading? will they wear glitter? Please I hope no fake-lashes?! Which authors will they read? The Second Sexe by Simone the Beauvoir?
So before getting my tickets – I had a few partners-in crime lined up for this one – I decided to check out the performers ~ Facts baby, you know me by know. I am big on research.
Let’s just say that I was a little “overwhelmed” that one of the performers received 3 awards for “Performer Most Likely to Get Shut Down by the Law,” “Most Unpredictable Performer,” and “Most Likely to Be the Next Queen of England”. This might be a bit much for me and too far removed from the soft yet powerful vibe from the other night…
Anyway, I thought I would know by the end of the post if I would want to go but I am still hesitant.

You may rest assured, SheIsFrench, that the vibe will be exactly that which you have come to expect from NGR, physical differences notwithstanding. I have listened to the performer you mention rehearse the piece he is reading – by Penny Starr – and it is nothing short of extraordinary. You can also expect Mary Shelly, Virginia Woolfe, Sylvia Plaith, and more. Hope you will decide to join us.
