I am starting to wonder if online dating is not becoming more civilized than the live dating.
I was always a proponent of the real stuff: girl meets guy at a party, they glance at each other weighing whatever is perceivable to the eye and their guts and go for a move. It’s usually followed by a conversation where they try to find out in the shortest amount of sentences if they are out for the same stuff. If their instincts were right… well their story begins….
Then came online dating sites with their requirements for full resumes, measurements, like and dislikes of anything you were comfortable sharing (and more than not it was too much).
The mysterious chemistry had disappeared: you would connect with that someone special ONLY IF the other had the same criteria as yours (i.e. another YOU) and ONLY THEN, would you accept to meet.
It seems that the new breed of online dating has managed to bring back some of the mystery and more important the much too needed humor!
Here’s my TOP 3:
It starts with romantic fueled How About We… perhaps my favorite… just what I always wanted… someone with whom I can share my quirks of the moment. You sign up and just suggest an idea: How about we… shop for old vinyl records or How about we…preview an art auction or … have coffee and do the Sunday crossword puzzle.
The second one has my vote for best in Humor, offering women to apply their well honed shopping skills to dating. Imagine a woman (the Client) pushing a cart in a Supermarket where the selves are filled with men (the Products)…
Do I need to say more ? Adopt a Guy makes shopping, sorry dating much easier. The guys are sorted in aisles just like in a good old K-Mart and up to you to pick your favorite category by Social Type (Intellectual, Executive, Artsy, Athletic…) or by Style (Chic, Rocker, Goth, Manly, Metrosexual, there’s even a Men in Uniform!). Take it a step further and you can choose in the Bonus Pack between: Chef, Poet, Vegetarian, Bisexual, Celeb Look-Alike or even Rich & Dying (ouch!).
Just reading the raving reviews from customers makes you laugh: “ I go through a cart a week, I’ve even lost weight! ”
The third Website that got peeked She is French’s interest is Yes! Mrs Robinson… “The Dating site for Confident Women & Younger Modern Men” says the tag line.
If you are still not convinced -despite 2010 being the Year of the Cougar- the site spells out all the benefits for both parties of this kind of relationship… along with the The Top 30 Toy Boy wishlist, starting with:
1. Gino D’Acampo
2. Ewan McGregor
3. Enrique Iglesias
4. Robbie Williams
5. Peter Andre
Ladies, if you are reading this, you are already on your computer… and just a few clicks away from your date.
Gentlemen, sign-up too: It takes two to tango!
