Can you stand the heat?

“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!”

Trust me, that’s exactly what I’ve done…  It’s been so hot lately in New York that I have been tempted to take refuge in movie theaters just to enjoy sitting in a cool – even sometimes freezing- air-conditioned space and watch a film.

However, this technique might have its limits. Precisely if what you are watching causes your body temperature and heart rate to dramatically increase. Which surely will be the case with the Sexy Film Festival…

My compliments go the the Australians (Kim, a glass of Rose to celebrate?) for not only starting the Sexy Film Festival but for making it International!

It showcases quality short and feature films from across the globe which explore love, relationships and sexuality. Australia opened the dance last October and will be followed by  screenings in Paris, New York and Los Angeles.

“Our aims are to discover and promote the best of quality independent short and feature films from around the world that explore the themes love, sex and relationships. Inspired by films of the 1960s like Russ Meyer, from the screen icons of Brigitte Bardot, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield and Betty Paige, to the ‘Pink’ Erotic films of Japan and the provocative work of Catherine Breillat, our “Sexy” festival, like no other, will combine theatre and cinema in one festival celebrating everything that is love, erotic, sensual, political, perverse and funny by filmmakers who bravely share their unique vision of sexy with us – with class.”

And when they say quality, they mean it. Sexu-elles is a whole section of short movies written and directed by Francophone women on the theme desire and  played by famous actors: Guillaume Canet, Melanie Laurent, Julie Gayet & Benjamin Biolay.
So wherever you may reside and however hot it might be there, you should soon have a very good reason to enter a cool theatre.

In Paris from June 24th through June 27th with a full program available on Sexy International Paris Film Festival.

In New York on July 1st and in Los Angeles on July 11th

why Americans gets only one day is as mysterious as it is unfair… aren’t we able to handle desire as well as the French?

  1. Hello
Thankyou for writing such lovely compliments on our film festival. We have just finished our 2nd edition in Paris and it went very well.
The Sexy Film Festival started in Australia by Jason Turley. I then decided to create a uniquely Parisian edition of the festival. We just finished an intense 4 days of music, performances, and of course, fantastic awarding cinema. Both festivals are run separately and independently, with the French version focusing on, of course, Francophone cinema. Jason takes care of Aust, LA and NY.

This year Jason is taking a travelling version of the festival to New York and LA.. “How come only one night?” Budget. Simply budget, or a severe lack of it. Both Jason and I fund the festivals ourselves and its very expensive. If we had the funds we would take it everywhere. But the goal is to expand through Europe.

just a side note: I have discovered a huge difference in perception of “Sexy” between Anglophones and Francophones. The Anglophones are a little….stiff…but that is another discussion for another day.

Thanks once again for our lovely write up and hope to see you our festival soon!
