Skinny-dipping & Rosé

That’s what I want this summer: a dinner at Sunset Beach with a glass of Rosé!

One of the perks of living in New York is that you are never more than 20 minutes away from a gorgeous beach. And if you drive an extra 2 hours or so, then you can reach a place that will almost feel like the south of France.

Last Saturday, I had dinner at the romantic and trendy Sunset Beach on Shelter Island.

The place is part of the Andre Balazs’s hotel empire. All of his properties, just like him, exude a certain je-ne-sais-quoi of chic and casual with a dash of playful naughtiness.

I must say that the Sunset beach has a wonderful and unique appeal because it inspires a certain nostalgia of times when vacations were dedicated to putting your life on pause and watching the time pass by.

First to get there, you’ll hop on a tiny ferry ride with the overwhelming sensation that you have escaped it all.  You’ll arrive just in time for barefoot cocktails on the beach starring at the sun in no rush to go down.  You’ll certainly bump into a couple of friends that you hadn’t seen in a while and dine together under dangling lights which might remind you of Provence. You’ll love the food with its mix of bistro french fares such as a lovely potato salad with capers and olives, and the Rosé (from a local vineyard that won’t make the ratings of Wine Spectator but largely compensated by the view) will slide gently down your throat.  You’ll coo and giggle with the cool French Manager who largely contributes to the charming settings. And you’ll tell him that you want to start it all over again the following week-end!

In the meantime, you’ll send these cheeky vintage postcards to invite your friends to join you on your next visit.

Naturellement Sexy!
